9 Malcolm Reid to Stevens, 30 April 1913, Stevens Papers. Stevens' hand in firing J. H. MacGill, a Liberal appointee, to bring in Reid is evident in the correspondence in MacGill's file: Immigration 334241. In an interview on 29 Oct. 1976, Fred 'Cyclone' Taylor, who had been one of Reid's immigration inspectors, said yes, Stevens got Reid the job after his predecessor was booted out.
